As you can see it
is quite a project.
One of the biggest problems I had
encountered was the wingfold for the TBM. KMC has alot of nice things to
it's credit, but the wingfold IMHO was not one of them. Almost left the
TBM off of this diorama because of it. Then I happened to hear all the
rave reviews about the Dangerboy
Hobbies wingfold. Thought I would get one and check it out.
Needless to say I took all the KMC stuff off and put the Dangerboy
Hobbies one on. It took a total of about a day and a half with all the
work to fair in the Dangerboy Hobbies
after cutting out the KMC one but it was well worth it.
As you can see from this photo,
The deck is now painted and weather slightly and the 2 Corsairs and SBD are now
finished except for the small stuff. I forgot to paint some of the small
details that you may not see, but I can see, because I'm so close to it.
I have also decided (as a couple
of the pictures show) to add an F6F-3 Hellcat to the scene. All I need is
to get the Dangerboy Hobbies wingfold for that one and to start it. :) I
want to try as best as I can to capture the business of the Carrier during that
period.
You can also see on a few of the
Corsair close-ups, there is some wiring showing. Those conect to small
electric motors that I did install. I wanted them to come alive. I
have tested them and they work great, even sound pretty good too. I won't
run them though until I get the wiring tucked underneath the base so there is no
risk of damaging the props.
All that's left for the
base now is to putty sand and stain the edges and to put all the hardware under
it for the batteries and switch for the power. Well I hope you all like
this installment. More to follow later...
Until next time,
JIM
