Messerschmitt Me109G-5
This model was converted from the Hasegawa 1/32
scale `109G-6. An Eduard PE set was added which is a pretty comprehensive
set. Also the spinner cannon and fuselage aerial receiver were scratched from
alloy tube, brake lines from copper wire. The conversion was fairly minor with a
new rear canopy bulk head with desiccant silica gel tablets attached. This was
scratch built from plasticard and some scrap pieces. Also the compressor intake
part from the kit needs to be used.

Air intakes on the windscreen are removed.
The figure is a resin item from Aires. Decals are
from Eagle Cals sheet ec38 and the paint are Xtracolor enamels for the main RLM
74,75,76 scheme and Tamiya acrylics for the fuselage band.

Weathering was a transparent acrylic wash
then my first use of pastel chalks brushed over and sealed with matt varnish. The
G-5 is basically a high altitude version of the G-6 as it has a pressurized
cockpit. It is finished in a pale mottled camouflage scheme of an aircraft of
9./JG54 W.Nr. 27119. This aircraft was lost after crashing on take off from
Ludwigslust , Germany on 8 April 1944 whilst flown by Uffz. Gerhard Kroll. Kroll
sustained some injury but survived and went on to fly FW190D-9`s with III./JG54
and JG26.
