India Independence Day

Here is my model of the venerable Sukhoi Su-7 sometime late in it's IAF service wearing the badge of the 221 Sqn. "The Valiants". The Modelsvit kit is arguably the best in the scale and the end product does look the part. Few things to note are - Somewhat poor fitting parts, missing fins on the pitot (incredibly small parts - had to be scratch built in my case), no definite hardpoints for the outer wing pylon even though the pylons themselves are supplied and small size blast deflector near starboard muzzle. (perhaps correct, but not for IAF birds).

Besides these above gripes, this kit is one of the best I have built in terms of details and accuracy. Almost a 48th scale 72nd kit. Decals supplied are for the 'Black Shark' bird, but can be used on other IAF schemes. The Valiants badge and all serials are home-made decals.

I am glad I chose to build this aircraft and this kit. The Su-7 is long gone, but it will forever be etched in the history books of the IAF for its stellar role in the 1971 ops. A much maligned aircraft during its time, the Su-7 came through for the IAF and brought many a pilots home in spite of incredible battle damage. It will always be remembered for its toughness and brute power.
