F/A-18C Hornet VFA-86
Here is the Second in a series of aircraft I plan to build from CVW-1. This is the CAG bird for VFA-86 when they were deployed aboard the U.S.S. George Washington in 1996. The Sidewinders carry the 4XX modex’s for CVW-1.

Here is my Hasegawa 1/48 scale F/A-18C Hornet. It was painted with Model Master paints. I painted it light ghost gray on the lower surfaces and dark ghost gray on the upper surfaces. It was weathered using an enamel wash and pastel chalk. I chose to model this Hornet ready for launch. She’s on cat 2 waiting for Diamondbacks 105 to launch.

The landing gear was detailed using copper wire. The right nose gear door was replaced and modified so the antennas would be in the correct position. The door that is supplied with the kit for the C models have the ECM bump molded on backwards. This was corrected by taking the door that is used for the A model and gluing a spare kit part # K24. The pilot is from one of those Monogram contraptions.

I wanted to show it ready for take off so I lowered the launch bar and the elevators are in full deflection. The flaps and slats were put in the down position.

She is armed 2 AIM-9Ls, 2 GBU-24s, 3 fuel tanks, and FLIR & LST pods on the cheeks.

The Sidewinders are from Hasegawa's weapons set C. The GBU-24s are Hasegawa's weapons set D.
