1/48 Tamiya Fw190 F-8

A Pair of Fockes

Here are two versions of Tamiya’s beautiful Fw190F-8 in 1/48.  A real dream to build with no filler anywhere.  Both are straight from the box & were built about a year apart.

The desert machine was based in Italy 1944 (thanks to Steve Eisenman for providing photos of this specific machine, although I mistakenly removed the lower portion of the main gear doors!)  This machine was probably over sprayed from the standard scheme at unit level; I applied the RLM79 sandgelb, then the decals & then another light RLM79 application to give the markings an “over sprayed” look.  Finally the green mottle was applied by hand, all through my Badger 200.

The winter camouflaged machine represents a Hungarian based unit in 1944/1945.  Standard scheme over sprayed with white.  With hindsight, perhaps I should have applied all the decals before the over spray.

All paints are Xtracolour for the main schemes with Humbrol details.

Brass tubing for the wing root cannon barrels, stretched sprue for the aerials (slack on the “blown” canopy, taught on the standard canopy).

I can’t “weather” models to save my life so this was limited to exhaust staining.
