This Dewoitine D-510 depicts one of aircrafts flown in Spanish civil war by Czechoslovak pilot Jan Ferak . He was born in 1913 in Usti near Vsetin. He served in Czechoslovak air force during his military service. He wanted to fly even in his civilian life, but due to prewar economic depression he didn’t have this opportunity.  In 1936 he decided to go to Brasil. On the way in Paris he took part in demonstration in aid of spanish people against fascists.  The decision was made. He arrived to Spain in autumn 1936. He served both in fighter and bomber squadrons, was 3 times shot down (2 times on bombers), captured and later returned to his squadron. He scored 940 operational hours and 7 air victories during spanish campaign.  In summer 1938 he returned to Czechoslovakia, but after german occupation on March 15, 1939 he left to USSR. In 1942 group of Czechoslovak pilots from USSR went to Great Britain to reinforce Czechoslovak squadrons in RAF. On this way on May 15, 1942 Jan Ferak was killed aboard cruiser HMS Trinidad by Luftwaffe attack...

The kit:

This kit I built cca 18 years ago. It was handbrushed with mixture of emamels, fuselage code was dry transfer. Recently I made little „upgrade“ to this kit – I added seatbelts, replaced guns with injection needles, made little panel emphasizing and applied final satin varnish layer.

Happy modelling
