The Illya Muromets
was a quite advanced design for its time. Igor Sikorsky of later fame pioneered
the four-engine arrangement and came out with an airplane of respectable size
and performance, with an impeccable record. ICM rendition is a very detailed kit
that will need patience and care and hopefully will stimulate the further
development and refinement of your skills. I undertook this project as a long
time effort, trying (not always succeeding I'm afraid) not to rush it. It took
several years to finish, but in between I was having fun and relaxation with
less demanding projects. I built the kit OOB, using a variety of acrylic paints
and metallic enamels for a few details. The kit required some vigorous
sessions of sanding and filling, but the results are really rewarding.

As usual with this
kind of model, the rigging was the most patience-challenging task. I used nylon
mono filament, threaded through tiny holes made in the struts and fuselage. The
kit decals went on smoothly and micro sol and set were used to blend them down.
The now mandatory Future was used to give the final coats between decaling.
