This was built for
the ARC Tigermeet group build a couple of years ago. The kit went together
very well and the overall appearance looks great. In this boxing it
includes the 'Tigermeet' decals and painting instructions. Gunze paints
were used. The kit has a couple of deficiencies outlined below.

The cockpit in the
kit is very basic, so I added side console details, seat harness and ejection
handles. The model needs a fair bit of nose weight which was added behind
the cockpit bulkhead as the nose cone is very small and under the cockpit is the
intake trunk. The inner wing pylons in the kit are the wrong size and
shape. I trimmed them to look better. The wing fences in the kit are
very thick so the were sanded to half thickness and look much better. The
model was spray painted in Gunze gloss orange and white. The top of the
nose area was sprayed in an orange-red mixture. Future was brushed on in
preparation for decals.
The decals as supplied were
incomplete and this is not mentioned in the instructions. I was quite
confused trying to relate the decals on the sheet to the placement guide in the
instructions until I realized there were gaps on the top of the fuselage, at the
wing roots and on the wings. These areas have to be painted. After placing
the decals and letting the dry, the gaps and missing stripes were hand painted
with Tamiya X17semi-gloss black. Thank goodness it only had to be black to
match the decal colour! A spray coat of Future sealed the decals and paint
and provided an even finish. The kit was great and a couple of simple
modifications were required to make it more accurate. The decals, however,
were disappointing as they were incomplete, however, the detail and register of the decals was outstanding. It is a great tiger scheme and
the artwork of the eyes and mouth is very intense. The G91 is a tiny jet aircraft
- it makes the F5E look huge!
