The
Ju-52
was only one out of many ex-Luftwaffe types that helped form the
Czechoslovakian Air Force after WWII. Some of them were assembled in the Letov
factory out of parts collected from
many airfields all around the country and newly built parts at the time (in some
cases without any drawings and documentation). One of this unique Ju-52,
modified in Czechoslovakia, was serving in the 2nd
Squadron of 1st transport regiment. This particular aircraft (D-11) was
depicted as this model.
The
Italeri kit is a very good one. It offers the possibility of choosing various
internal and external configurations for various Ju-52 versions (military/civil
version, various number of windows, open/closed doors etc). I had difficulties
in picking a proper configuration for right side of fuselage, because all
photos of Czechoslowakian Ju-52 that I had, were showing only the left side of
fusselage. I can only guess how the aircraft fusselage right side looks like, so
I have chosen the most probable
version of it. The Model master's RLM71 and Revell55 were the colours used,
as in the post WW2 period many Czechoslovakian aircrafts were painted with
colours similar to the German ones. The roundels are my hand-made products
("cut and paint" method, out of
white decal paper). The
registration code D-11 has been done by a brush.
