1/72 Heller CL-215T

Canadair Water Bomber

This Canadair water bomber was built about 10 years ago using sketches and  handwritten notes I had made of a/c 238 of the Quebec government air service which was parked at the airport in Quebec city in the winter of 1991.  I used the Heller piston engined kit but scratch built the Pratt & Whitney turbo props by carving a block of wood and making a mold.  The 215T was the turbo prop version of the CL 215 and used the basic airframe of the piston engined version, and several 215s were so converted.  The CL 415  is now the current production aircraft having been redesigned specifically for the PW engines.

The decals are a mixture of homemade, kit and Arrow graphics.  Paints are Tamiya acrylics.

In 2005 while on a fishing trip to Northern Quebec several water bombers were seen in action near the town of Chibougamau where a fierce forest fire threatened the town.  On my return home I was sent photos of the water bombing operations and one of the photos clearly shows a/c 238 in the thick of things, in somewhat different livery.
